Area Preparation: Proper surface preparation is essential for the Pittsburgh Paint & Stains® limited warranty to apply. Remove all loose, peeling paint, dirt, mildew, grease, chalk, rust and any other surface contaminants. Putty all nail holes, and caulk all cracks and open seams. Sand all glossy, rough, and patched surfaces.
If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust or fumes. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST OR FUMES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a properly fitted NIOSH-approved respirator and prevent skin contact to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the USEPA National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. Follow these instructions to control exposure to other hazardous substances that may be released during surface preparation.
Application: Apply with a high quality nylon or polyester brush, roller or paint pad. Work quickly to keep a wet edge and do not go back over semi-dry surfaces. Where necessary, apply a second coat. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat. For smooth surfaces, use a 3”-4” (7.62 cm - 10.2 cm) nylon brush. For textured surfaces, use a nylon brush or roller designed for this purpose.
Application Temperature: Apply when air, product, and surface temperatures are 50ºF (10ºC) or above.
Drying Time: Normally dries to touch in 1 hour at 77ºF (25ºC) and 50% relative humidity. Allow 4 hours before recoating. If recoating after 72 hours, light sanding is recommended.
Cleanup: Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth or sponge. Wash brushes, rollers and other painting tools with soap and water immediately after use.
